E.P. Homiek held an Introduction to Duct Sizing seminar on Thursday, January 10, 2019. The purpose of the class was to guide HVAC technicians through basic air physics, duct sizing terminology, and understanding CFM, air changes, static pressure, velocity pressure, frictional loss, and pressure drops.
The instructor led a static pressure mapping demonstration and showed attendees how to size return air and supply air grills. He emphasized how critical airflow is for proper fan performance, supply and return static pressure, superheat and sub-cooling, temperature rise for the heat exchanger, and most importantly, comfort and proper air changes throughout the home.
The class also touched on ACCA manuals D, J, S, N and H. Seminar students also learned about the importance of duct sizing for an existing home to solve airflow problems and reviewed ductwork design for a new home. The instructor went through several duct sizing scenarios for residential supply and return ductwork. E.P. Homiek provided food and refreshments, and sweatshirts were given out along with free ductilators, duct sizing handouts on flex and metal ductwork, and several door prizes.
The next duct sizing event will take place at our Union, NJ location on Thursday, January 24, 2019 from 5:00 to 7:30 pm. To register, please call 908-688-9104 or email news@ephomiek.com.
