E.P. Homiek Hosts Goodman Webinar on Airflow and Refrigerant Diagnostics
E.P. Homiek Sheet Metal & HVAC Supply had a huge turnout for our December 15th free webinar on “Airflow & Refrigerant Diagnostics”. The event was well-attended by apprentices and seasoned HVAC technicians alike.
Instructed by Dean Altemus, Regional Technical Service Manager at Goodman/Daikin Comfort Technologies, the one-hour webinar focused on measuring static pressure, preinstallation considerations, calculating CFM, blower speed selection, how airflow affects the refrigerant circuit, and charging and refrigerant diagnostics. Dean took the HVAC technicians step-by-step through an informative PowerPoint on understanding static pressure and its relationship to airflow. The class was shown a static pressure map, locations where readings should be taken, and static pressure readings that should be expected under normal design conditions.
We also went over common trouble areas such as filter pressure drop, dirty evaporators, and incorrectly-sized ductwork. Dean led class members in an exercise in which static pressure was converted to CFM. The HVAC technicians also learned how to calculate flow by differential temperature and how improper static pressure or airflow can affect superheat and potentially overheat a heat exchanger.
