  • Don’t Overlook the “V” in HVAC

Ventilation is something that is often overlooked by homeowners and HVAC contractors alike.  Lack of proper ventilation, particularly with today’s tighter construction methods and materials, is a common problem that can cause a variety of issues related to health, comfort, and HVAC system operation.

    • Bathroom exhaust fans are frequently inadequate to remove moisture and odors.
    • Basements and crawlspaces are prone to humidity, moisture, and mold, and most are not properly ventilated.
    • Ventilation is often overlooked in small rooms like pantries and walk-in closets.
    • Attic airflow is a necessity during hot summer months. Ventilation of super-heated air prolongs the life of roof shingles, removes moisture, and prevents heat from infiltrating the house.
    • Proper ventilation is necessary to provide combustion air for furnaces and for air conditioner operation.
    • Verify proper air flow or CFM to supply registers throughout the home. Also check return grills and ductwork, as they are often undersized.

If you are not seriously addressing ventilation issues or asking the right questions about their ventilation problems, you are doing yourself and your customers a big disservice.
