E.P. Homiek to Host Seminars on Measuring and Ordering HVAC Ductwork
When it comes to HVAC duct systems, placing orders for custom-fabricated ductwork and duct fittings can sometimes be tricky, especially for HVAC technicians who are newer to the trade. E.P. Homiek’s sheet metal fabrication team always works diligently to guide our customers through the ordering process to ensure the final product is exactly what is needed for their installation, but the fact is that ordering errors do happen, and more often than not they’re due to inexperience on the HVAC technician’s part and lack of knowledge in ductwork terminology.
This fall, E.P. Homiek Sheet Metal & HVAC Supply will be hosting free ductwork measuring and ordering seminars in our Union, NJ and Lakewood, NJ locations to help our customers develop these skills to ensure that their duct fabrication orders consistently meet their project needs.
As any HVAC contractor knows, bad duct measurements and ordering errors can be costly. Mistakes with standard fittings are not the end of the world, as typically they can be exchanged, but custom fabrication is quite a different story. It should be noted that, even with simple rectangular duct, measuring and ordering errors are not uncommon with novice HVAC technicians who may not have considered variables such as whether insulation is interior or exterior. Items such as transition pieces, square-to-round adapters, and duct reducers can also present challenges. Oftentimes, framed walls and tight openings allow no room for error down to fractions of an inch. In fact, one of our customers recently had a situation where return ductwork transitions were ordered with incorrect measurements for 24 identical condominium units. In the HVAC world, nothing is more frustrating than having a project come to halt due to having ordered the wrong materials for the job.
