  • Residential HVAC Outlook for 2021

Though 2020 certainly has been a difficult year for many businesses and industries due to the COVID-19 pandemic, HVAC contractors have fared relatively well for the most part. Properly-functioning heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems are necessities, not luxuries, and from the start of the pandemic, HVAC work was deemed essential by the State of New Jersey.

There’s still more good news for our industry. With more people working from home, it’s expected that many families will be investing heavily in big-ticket home comfort items in 2021. As we noted on this blog back in June, the number of people working remotely is expected to rise from a pre-pandemic level of 4% of U.S. workers to 25-30% by the end of 2021. Also, a recent survey found that 59% of adults working from home due to the pandemic expressed interest continuing to do so after it’s over.

You might think people don’t have the extra money to spend during the pandemic, but many do. Social distancing has meant cutting back on things like restaurants, vacations, clothing, travel expenses, etc., so many households have the means to invest in upgrading their HVAC systems. This includes high-efficiency furnaces and air conditioning equipment, indoor air quality (IAQ) improvements like bipolar ionizers, UVGI, and air cleaners, whole-house humidifiers, and “smart” WiFi thermostats.

With 2020 drawing to a close, E.P. Homiek Sheet Metal & HVAC Supply would like to wish you a happy, healthy and prosperous new year. Thank you for your continued and highly-valued business!
